Dirt Maidens Challenge
The Dirt Maidens Challenge is an all-women’s mountain bike event that covers a range of disciplines; from cross-country to downhill with a very relaxed and social atmosphere. This concept kicked off three years ago, with the previous events being held near Jindabyne but for 2016 the same crew will join forces with Bike Buller to hold a Dirt Maidens Challenge at the MTB mecca of Mt Buller.
It’s set to take place on the 20-21 of February. Those who choose to race cross-country can pick from three distances; there’s a 7km short course, a 12.5km standard course and a solid 20km long course. Trail will include Soul Revival, One Tree Hill, Gang Gangs, the Picnic Trail, Cornhill, Medusa, Clancy's Run, Wombat Trail, Splitrock climb and the Family trail. The gravity side of the event will utilise the descent of Copperhead; Mt Buller’s flow trail with berms, switchbacks and numerous rolling jumps and optional lines.
Entrants can choose to ride either discipline or take part in both. In addition to the racing, there will be a guided social ride down the Delatite River Trail and a skills clinic on the Friday prior to racing if you want to brush up on your technique. There’s also dinner and drinks at The Bike Club of Victoria on Saturday evening, giving everyone a chance to relax, socialise and share their tales.
Of course there’s a light hearted dress theme too, so dig out your best fluoro getup and join in the fun! For course details and more info visit the Dirt Maidens website.
