Dwellingup 100

This year the Dwellingup 100 will serve as a stop on the six round National XCM series as well as being West Australia’s State Marathon Championships. While it’s sure to attract some super fit and fast racers as a result, that’s not what it’s all about.

Over 1,100 riders are expected to take part and the vast majority won’t be ‘elite’. There are four distance options to choose from; the 100km Classic may be the drawcard but there’s also 60 and 40km events as well as a 14km ride for kids and beginners (this also serves as a Schools Championship Race).

The event also has a charity partner; Muscular Dystrophy WA. Five years ago they started ‘ride for someone who can’t’. This is an exclusive team of 30 riders and each is paired up with someone who has muscular dystrophy to pedal on their behalf. So far this initiative has raised in excess of $500,000 for the cause. To accompany this they now have the Kyle Conor Spirit of the Ride award, which is named after two team members who sadly passed away two years ago. The award is now presented to an inspirational participant within the event who has overcome their challenges, showing courage and integrity.

For those who’ve ridden the event before, the 2016 Dwellingup will see a couple of course tweaks. The notorious descent of Hells Gates is gone, replaced by the POW track; a fun trail that will be enjoyed by a larger number of participants. The climb is also different, now going up the Forest Gump track. Where the older course took on two separate loops, the new route will utilise the same trail twice for the 100km distance and one full lap plus a shortened one for the 60km riders.

If you want to race some of the best trails WA has to offer, lock in Sept 3rd—the first Saturday in September. www.dwellingup100.com.au
