Panaracer Driver Pro 29er Tyre

There was a time when if you weren’t on Panaracer’s Smoke/Dart tyre combo you just didn’t know about tyres. Although Panaracer went quiet for a few years, their more recent Rampage tyre has received great reviews overseas, and now the fast rolling 29er crowd have a new tyre—the Driver Pro 29er. Designed for dry conditions, the 595g (590g claimed) 55mm wide Driver Pro has a low profile centre tread with transverse blocks for enhanced climbing/braking traction. You’ll also find progressively taller and bigger blocks towards the edges to improve cornering grip. The file surface under the centre tread should help on rocks and roots as well as providing slightly better resistance to punctures through the tread area, while the generous volume should help resist pinch flats and provide a bigger cushion to smooth out trail chatter. These Japanese-made tyres use Panaracer’s highly regarded ZSG rubber compound; you can pick them up for around $90 each.
