SRAM Roam Wheels

SRAM’s entered the MTB wheel market a little over a year ago with the Rise wheelsets. While they were stiff and light, they lacked easy tubeless compatibility and their comparatively narrow width let them down (at least that’s what we thought when we reviewed them). Their newly released Roam wheels serve to answer many of these shortcomings. They’ll be available in alloy (Roam 50) and carbon (Roam 60) and both will be UST tubeless compatible, so there’s no fiddling with rim strips. They measure 21mm internally; not super wide but an improvement on the 19mm internal dimension of the Rise wheels. If wider floats your boat, they’ll also offer the all-mountain oriented Rail wheels with a 23mm inner width. The carbon Roam 60s will sell for $2,250 a pair (claimed weight 1,495g in 26-inch or 1,625g in 29-inch) while the alloy Roam and wider Rail 50 will be $1,250 for the pair. The claimed weights from SRAM are 1,475g for the 26-inch Roam 50 and 1,690g 26-inch Rail 50.
