Blueprint for a MTB Destination

Back in 1994, Troy Rarick moved to the dilapidated farming town of Fruita in Colorado – about an hour from Moab. At the time there was no MTB trails and no riding community but he decided to open a bike shop; a seemingly suicidal move.

At the time most mountain bikers were riding trails originally made for walking but Rarick and a few friends started building trails specifically for riding – trails that had flow.

In time Fruita’s reputation grew and mountain bikers flocked from, far and wide. Fruita is a prime example of a MTB success story where tourism has brought life to a backwater town.

Troy knows what it takes to make this happen and his thoughts on the development of our sport are well worth listening to.
